A CEO's Speech

The Bristol Myers Squibb Tour of Hope

The problem

Peter Dolan, CEO of Bristol Myers Squibb, was slated to give four brief speeches at major rallies along the route of the Tour of Hope, the cross country bike ride led by Lance Armstrong that promotes awareness of cancer and the importance of clinical trials. Dolan’s in-house speechwriter was working on other projects, so Spectrum Science Communications turned to Porro Associates to produce drafts on a tight deadline.

The solution

With Dolan out of the country, Jeff Porro reviewed transcripts of the CEO’s previous speeches and watched videos of his television interviews. Porro also reviewed a wide range of background material provided by Spectrum. In the end, he produced a draft on deadline, then made revisions based on Spectrum’s feedback.

The result

The speeches were enthusiastically received by Spectrum, Bristol Myers Squibb, and Tour of Hope audiences in San Diego, Houston, and Atlanta.
